About
Course: The Indira Gandhi National Open University has
introduced Ph. D. Programme in Computer Science was launched in January 2009.
This programme helps to software industries to discover, implement and test new
approaches, tools and techniques for designing software solutions to problems.
It also proves vast practical laboratory for experiments. Government and
semi-government institutions such as MICT, CSIR, DST, DRDO etc., are also
involved in research in different areas of applications of computer technology.
Objective
of the course: The motive to launch the Ph. D. Programme in Computer
Science was to develop the spirit of innovation and research among the
faculties and scientists for expansion of fundamental knowledge and
technological innovations. The aim of the department was to meet the
requirement of higher learning.
Course
Duration: Duration of the course is 2 to 5 years.
Programme
Fee: The course fee is Rs.14000/- per year.
Qualification
Criteria: Any candidate who have completed M. Phil Degree in the
Computer Science / IT etc with 55% marks OR
Master's degree or its equivalent degree from any University
or a recognized Institute of higher learning in any relevant branch of Science
/ Engineering & technology with minimum 60% marks OR
Degree in Computer Science/Information Technology with 70%
marks with five years of experience in teaching or in the software industry may
apply for the admission.
Admission
Process: The admission will be made on the basis of merit list
of taken entrance examination. Sub-committee will decide the eligibility
criteria.
Age
Criteria: There is no any age restriction. Any person can get
admission in particular course.
Course Material (various Programmes): The following
programmes are held for providing knowledge and solution to difficulties.
I) Teleconferencing: IGNOU - Ph. D. Programme in
Computer Science course has a facility for Teleconferencing. It is a one- way
video and two-way audio device which make possible to communication. The
facility is available at the Regional Centre and Selected Study Centres.
Teleconferencing is done through Gyan Darshan Channel. Candidates must
regularly attend these sessions. These will help students to clarify doubts and
interact with other learners all over the country.
II) Audio-video Programme: This programme facilitate
with audio-video cassettes which can be helpful in viewing and listening. A one
can also hire these cassettes during the course.
IV) Radio counseling & Telecast: The department
also provides facility of radio counseling through FM. students can ask queries
by toll free telephone number 110012345. The programme also telecasted on
television at DD Metro channel. The schedule is telecasted in advance so that
one can prepare for subject properly.
